STOP HANDGUN VIOLENCE
I applaud the Massachusetts House and Senate for enacting a very thoughtful new comprehensive gun violence prevention bill that is specifically targeted to close dangerous loopholes in our existing gun safety laws and that will effectively save lives without infringing on the 2nd Amendment.
A majority on the Supreme Court, while acknowledging the deadly impact of using bump stocks to fire more bullets more rapidly to kill more people, would rather pass the buck to an ineffective Congress than maintain the ban.
The SCOTUS ruling on NY Bruen case is playing out across the country, but it’s important to realize that this decision does NOT undo lawful gun restrictions and it does NOT undo licensing requirements. We don’t shy away because of Bruen, rather we press forward because gun laws save lives.
Gun Violence is a uniquely American public health and safety crisis. No other developed country intentionally allows unrestricted access to easily concealed handguns and military-style assault weapons.
If you live in Roxbury, Mattapan, or Dorchester, it is easier to find a gun than find a job, and that is the case across America in our poorest neighborhoods… There is a relationship between economic justice, crime reduction, and lower gun crime.’
At Stop Handgun Violence
